A String Stretched Between Stars and We Pluck It

A 1 track ambient single (5m 4s) — released September 27th 2024 on The Wormhole

Simon Pomery is an Irish sonic artist based in London. Self-taught in guitar and drum-kit from an early age, Pomery is a multi-instrumentalist, playing percussion, piano, Eurorack synthesiser and, as of 2023, Halldorophone. He works in genres including no wave, post-punk, techno, drone and electro-acoustic composition. Since 2013, as Blood Music, he has released on Diagonal, FLUF, The Tapeworm and The Wormhole. He has performed at festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Les Urbaines, UH Fest and Elevate, and in clubs across Europe and Japan.

"A String Stretched Between Stars and We Pluck It" is edited from Pomery's forthcoming album on The Wormhole. The album, titled "Skin String Sine", is made of "figures", a word Pomery uses to describe the repetition and variation of musical parts, melodies heard in dreams or in waking life and the body's manifestation of each. Musical figures and the figure of the body/of bodies.

"A String…" was written for strings and voices in 2022. It was composed so that each iteration might employ different instrumentation. After playing one iteration of the track at KET, Athens (March 2024), members of the audience approached Pomery while touching their chests and speaking about the effects of the sounds on their hearts. This performance signalled Pomery's evolution from Blood Music to "heart music" – music which explores the effects of harmonics on the listener.

"Simon is the most acid Acidman of all of us. He's made of acid." – Russell Haswell.
